Helping parents get off to the best start with their newborn.
Postnatal Doula
in South West London
Hello
I’m Victoria, and I provide practical and emotional postnatal support to families from birth to six months. This is a tender, incredible time after a baby is born, when families can really benefit from extra care.
Maybe you’re planning ahead and considering a postnatal doula because you don’t have family nearby who’ll be able to help you after birth.
Or perhaps you’re at home with your newborn baby right now and in need of some support and encouragement, whether that’s with feeding, infant soothing or your own physical recovery. Maybe things feel overwhelming right now, or you're exhausted and just need some short-term respite.
I can help.
“It Takes a Whole Village to Raise a Child.”
— Igbo proverb from Nigeria
What is a doula?
A doula is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides physical, emotional, and informational support for parents, before, during and just after childbirth.
The practice of women supporting women in childbirth and caring for a newborn is as ancient as humanity itself.
The idea that you and your partner are meant to be able to get on with it, without any additional help, isn't the way that babies have been raised for thousands of years.
But with more of us moving away from extended family, we often aren't in a position to receive that much needed support. Someone to cook nourishing meals for us or take the baby for a walk whilst we rest.
And the rich experience of parenting that would traditionally have been passed along from mothers, aunts and cousins is becoming lost. For so many of us, the first time we change a nappy or watch how a baby latches on to a breast is when we have children of our own.
This is where a calm, supportive and knowledgeable doula can make a huge difference in those early weeks of parenthood.
“Hiring Victoria was the best decision we made. She was able to support us through the most difficult time with our baby girl when she was just three days old. As soon as she walked through the door I instantly relaxed. ”
